Petrified for double bass & live electronics showcases the incredible expressive range of the instrument.

Petrified is a reflection on the plastic nature of stones and rocks. The different states of the piece include Explosion, Ebullition, Expansion, Erosion, Effusion and Eruption.

The live electronics may be performed in different ways:

  • a musician performs live electronics as designed and provided by the composer, or a variation thereof, in a duet with the bassist.
  • a musician performs improvised live electronics in a duet with the bassist.
  • the bassist performs by themselves using the live electronics as designed and provided by the composer, or a variation thereof.
  • the bassist performs improvised live electronics at the same time as the instrumental part.

You will get the score and the original program for Petrified, version for double bass & live electronics.

The original program is a set of Max patches and presets, made available as free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or any later version. It may be used as is with Max on most Apple systems: it makes use of Apple Audio Units such as compression, reverberation, etc. The program may be modified for use on PCs that would not have the same plugins available.

Note: the patch and presets for the baritone saxophone version and for the double bass version are identical.
